Reaching for Better by Alice Smith

The treadmill of life came to a halt,

and stir crazy is running rampant.

The world as we knew it has simply stopped,

and panicky leisure has taken hold.

Restaurants are empty and highways deserted.

Trains and planes and busses are bare.

We’re forced to stay home to wait and worry.

Will COVID crazy ever subside?

Before all this happened, normal seemed fine,

but maybe, just maybe that wasn’t the case.

Let us take pause to search our souls

reaching for better than what we were.

Can we possibly learn from this helluva mess?

Can those who have more help those who have less?

Can a damn pandemic bring out our best?

Let us respond with a powerful YES!
